How to donate your laptop to support charities

Many of us have old laptops and cell phones stashed away in closets, drawers, and garages. While we often want to donate them, local charities may not accept these devices, and data security is a significant concern.

DonorConnection addresses these issues with a user-friendly service that allows anyone in the U.S. to donate laptops and cell phones by mail for free. Their innovative platform generates a Device Passport for each donated item, confirming receipt, data wiping, and refurbishment.

DonorConnection’s mission is to support charities through computer reuse and recycling. Refurbished devices aid their charity partners, including HopeCam, Computers for the Blind, Children of the Nations, and World Computer Exchange.

Donating is simple: complete an online form to receive a prepaid UPS mailing label and links to the Device Passports. Package your donations and drop them off at a local UPS collection site. Once received, your donations are processed, and the Device Passports are updated. These web pages verify that the devices were processed and their data securely wiped, with proof recorded on a blockchain to prevent tampering.
DonorConnection accepts only functional laptops and cell phones less than seven years old. Donors receive a tax-deductible donation receipt for all items. For large quantities and business donations, pickup arrangements can be made.
